AI & Data Ethics
The certificate delves into pressing issues of AI and data ethics, focusing on navigating ethical complexities within emerging, data-centric AI technologies. It also explores the foundational principles of ethics and their connections with broader social trends and systems.
While there are no mandatory prerequisites, participants are expected to have firsthand experience with data science technologies and a basic familiarity with current events in AI development.
Learning Objectives: The certificate program aims to achieve the following learning outcomes:
- Ethical Implications: Understand how technical decisions in data science and data-intensive AI development carry ethical implications.
- Application of Ethical Frameworks: Apply ethical frameworks to gain insight into responsible data science practices.
- Ethical Data Analysis: Analyze data for ethically relevant features, fostering a holistic understanding of ethical considerations in data-centric AI technologies.
Mark Graves is an experienced data scientist with extensive training in ethics and moral psychology. Mark earned his PhD in computer science at the University of Michigan in artificial intelligence, received a master's degree at the Jesuit School of Theology in Berkeley, and did additional research in AI and ethics at the University of Notre Dame. His recent research has focused on understanding and modeling human morality, including ethical approaches to data science and machine learning, and philosophical and psychological foundations for constructing moral AI. He is Visiting Faculty/Scholar at the USF Lane Center for Catholic Social Thought and the Ignatian Tradition.
