Francisco J. Ayala is
a University Professor and Donald Bren Professor of Biological
Sciences, Ecology & Evolutionary Biology School of Biological
Sciences at the University of California at Irvine. Ayala, a former
Dominican priest, has been President of the American Association for
the Advancement of Science (AAAS), and has served on the governing
council of the National Academy of Sciences. In 2001, he was awarded
the National Medal of Science. He was a chief witness in the
creationist trials in Arkansas in 1981.
Dr. Ayala will also give a lecture to USF's scientific community titled, "Evolution of Plasmodium, the Agent of Malaria" on Monday, November 16 at 5:30 pm in the Harney Science Center, room 232.
