Founded in 1997, Ulpan San Francisco is a three-week intensive Hebrew language program, which takes place on the campus of the University of San Francisco. We welcome all who are interested in the Hebrew language. We offer multiple levels of Hebrew instruction in small class settings, students will thrive within a community of learners while receiving individual attention. Emphasis is placed on conversation, accompanied by reading, writing, and grammar. The learning experience is enhanced by various teaching aids such as video, film clips, songs, drama, and audio material. Extracurricular activities include guest lecturers, Friday communal lunches, singing, and dancing. A certificate of completion is awarded. Currently, no university credit is given.

Multiple Levels Offered
Students are placed in various levels: Beginning, Intermediate, or Advanced, according to their fluency. Level One focuses on the alphabet, basic vocabulary, and the present tense. Level Two, for beginners-plus, explores these areas more intensively. Levels Three and Four advance students' learning in order to master the past and future tenses. Level Five focuses on conversation proficiency wherein students explore more complex texts. The text for Levels One and Two is Ivrit Min Hahatchala Level I (Hebrew from Scratch I) accompanied by CDs. The text for Level Three is Ivrit Min Hahatchala I, or (depending on class level) Ivrit min Hahatchala II. The highest level; four or five-- depending on registration-- is taught with materials supplied by the instructor such as Hebrew newspapers, articles, fiction works and poetry.
All students, except those with no prior knowledge of Hebrew, will be given a placement exam. We will call students prior to the program start to determine placement.
Our native Hebrew language teachers bring a wealth of knowledge to Ulpan San Francisco. Each instructor has years of experience in classroom, private and/or Ulpan settings. All instructors have taught extensively in the United States.
