Harry Allen

Adjunct Professor

Harry Allen is a Federal On-Scene Coordinator (OSC) and Chief of EPA Region 9's Emergency Response Section. His primary focus is readiness for environmental assessment missions associated with large-scale disasters, and data management and analysis in emergency response settings, ranging from residential spills to presidential declared disasters.

Peter Brown

Adjunct Professor

Peter Brown works as a long-range planner with the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA), specializing in climate action and sustainable transportation.  He has taught Urban Planning courses at UCLA and CalPoly and has experience in land-use, transportation, air quality and climate change with municipal and state agencies across California, as well as Central America. Peter is also an avid cyclist who chooses the bicycle and transit for most trips around the Bay Area.

Brad Drda

Adjunct Professor

Brad Drda is the environmental manager for Recology San Francisco. With over 20 years of solid waste industry experience, Mr. Drda is responsible for hazardous waste pollution prevention programs at San Francisco's primary recycling and waste handling facilities. He also manages energy efficiency and renewable power projects at Recology San Francisco.

Gary Floyd, an MSEM alumnus, is Vice President of Tetra Tech, Inc.'s San Francisco operations and an Environmental Scientist with a background in natural resources and hazardous waste management, includingenvironmental compliance support to agencies, industry, and private developers.

Aaron Frank

Adjunct Professor

Aaron Frank's areas of interest include Environmental Law, Environmental Ethics, and Wildlife Policy.  He is the Founder and President of the California Wildlife Center and sits on the Board of the Arava Institute for Environmental Studies. In 2013, Aaron won a USF Distinguished Teaching Award.

Kathleen Jennings

Adjunct Professor

Dr. Jennings' background is in water quality, human and ecological risk assessment, and wildlife ecology. She is trained in emergency response for hazardous materials releases and natural resource assessments for shoreline and biological injury.

Gordon Johnson

Adjunct Professor

Gordon Johnson is an Environmental Engineer for the Shell Oil Refinery. He has extensive experience in energy resources management including renewable energy program development, as well as drinking water and industrial wastewater treatment, groundwater and soil remediation, air pollution compliance and hazardous waste compliance.

Cindy Lowney

Adjunct Professor

Dr. Lowney works as a Senior Hydraulic Engineer with Resource Management Associates, involved in ongoing analysis of Army Corps of Engineer projects.  Her specialties include temperature and floodplain dynamics of the San Joaquin and Sacramento Rivers.  Dr. Lowney instructs MSEM Master's Projects, as well as water resources and environmental engineering.

Matt Macko is a LEED Accredited Professional (O&M), RESNET Energy Rater, Certified Sustainable Building Advisor, Certified Green Building Professional, Certified Energy Plans Examiner and Certified Energy Manager.  He specializes in Life Cycle Costing in construction and green building analysis.

Jae Pasari

Adjunct Professor

Dr. Pasari's research and teaching interests range from basic science to applied ecology and environmental management. He has extensive experience in community and global change ecology with a focus on California's aquatic and terrestrial invasive species. Dr. Pasari holds a B.S. in molecular environmental biology from U.C. Berkeley (2002), a Ph.D. in environmental studies from U.C. Santa Cruz (2011), and has worked as a postdoctoral researcher at U.C. Davis.

Steven Ritchie

Adjunct Professor

Steven Ritchie specializes in water system planning, operations, and restoration.  He serves as assistant general manager of the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission, overseeing water, lands, and habitat-from Hetch Hetchy to city distribution. He also works with CALFED Bay-Delta Program, among others.

Diane Roberts

Department Chair / Professor

Roberts is a Professor of Accounting at the University of San Francisco. She holds a B.A. in Economics from the University of California, Davis, a M.S. in Accounting from California State University, Sacramento, and a Ph.D. in Accounting from the University of California, Irvine.

Aviva Rossi

Adjunct Professor

Aviva Rossi is a MSEM graduate, field biologist, and project manager with 13 years of experience.  She has worked with research institutions, non-profit organizations, and consulting firms focusing on regulated species (sensitive or invasive) and habitats in the greater San Francisco Bay Area.  She has experience running successful field programs through vegetation and wildlife field surveys, habitat restoration, monitoring projects, and regulatory compliance work.

Ana Sandoval

Adjunct Professor

Ana Sandoval is an Air Quality Program Manager at the Bay Area Air Quality Management District. Ana has been with the Air District since 2005, starting as an Environmental Planner, training local governments in greenhouse gas inventories, and now leading the Community Outreach team. Prior to joining the Air District, Ana worked as a strategic planner at VIA Metropolitan Transit in San Antonio.

Ken Schwarz

Adjunct Faculty

Ken Schwarz, Ph.D. is a founding Principal at Horizon Water and Environment.  He is a recognized expert in the fields of geomorphology, hydrology, and watershed management.  For over 20 years, he has directed complex projects throughout California involving erosion and sediment management, flood and stormwater management, stream maintenance and capital programs, land use planning, water rights, habitat conservation, and ecosystem restoration.

Laura Seidman

Adjunct Professor

Laura is a BPI certified Building Analyst, Envelope, Heating and Multifamily Professional. Using her Masters Degrees in Urban Design and Education as well as training in Baubiologie, building science and eco-consulting, Laura founded her own Design and Energy consulting company to complement her 25 year teaching career.  She is currently an active designer, building auditor, teacher, and Quality Assurance verifier working throughout the Bay Area and Central Valley.

Fred Wellington

Adjunct Professor

Fred Wellington specializes in clean energy markets, greenhouse gas mitigation and environmental commodities at Navigant Consulting. Mr. Wellington works with a diverse range of clients including electric utilities, investment firms and corporations on renewable energy procurement and regulatory compliance, investment due diligence, greenhouse gas strategy, emissions trading and renewable energy credit (REC) markets. Prior to joining Navigant, Mr. Wellington led the environmental finance team at the World Resources Institute, and worked in investment banking as a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA).
