Angelo F. Merino
Adjunct Professor
Professor Angelo Merino is an Adjunct Professor for the
Yuchengco Philippine Studies Program and a Teaching Apprentice for
the Asian Studies Program at the University of San Francisco. He
teaches YPSP 222: Philippine Boxing and Culture which focuses on
the diverse societies and communities Filipinos in the Philippines
and America as well as the history of Philippine boxing. In
addition, Angelo helps teach the course YPSP 323: Filipino Politics
and Justice. In Fall 2011, he will be teaching a new course in
conjunction with Prof. Jay Gonzalez - YPSP 333: Boxing and Social
Justice: a unique course which combines recreational sports,
cultural diversity and service learning.
Prof. Merino is the Head Boxing Coach for USF. He is licensed
level 2 by the USA Boxing Association, is internationally certified
and recognized by Amateur Boxing of Philippines, and has experience
as a USA Amateurs Boxing Official.
Prof. Merino also works as the Sports Editor at Manila Mail and
Philippine Headlines newspaper, the premier Filipino American
Newspaper in circulation.
