McGUIRE REAL ESTATE

Walter E. McGuire founded McGuire Realty in 1919. Born in Ireland, Walter had the original location of the business on Montgomery Street in the Rotunda Mills Building. At the time, all he needed to open the business was a declaration rather than a license, and thus McGuire Real Estate was born. In addition, in 1919, a variety of services were offered to the client. From financing to insurance, to brokerage, people were left satisfied by the customer service and quality that McGuire offered.

In its early stages, McGuire Real Estate dealt in commercial properties and employed a small work force. As time changed, however, so did this thriving business. Expanding to five offices around the Bay area, McGuire became a household name. The unfortunate passing of Walter McGuire in 1958 left the business to his daughter, Florian. Apparently hesitant, Walter decided that even though Florian had no formal education in Real Estate, he wanted the business to stay within the family. This proved to be one of the most important choices in the history of the business.

In 1960 when Florian took over the business, few women were doing the type of work that she was involved in. She decided to close the 5 satellite offices in the city and focus her attention on one location based out of a residence in San Francisco. This was a brilliant decision. And it was at this time that McGuire Real Estate shifted its focus from commercial to residential properties. Florian's famous last name and infectious charm allowed the business to expand and blossom once again.

In 1980, Florian's son Charlie decided to become the third generation of McGuire's to enter into the family business. With business savvy, he joined with his mother to create a dynamite team that now fuels a staff of over 170 people.

McGuire Real Estate is built on solid principles that have remained the basis of their success. Customer service is key to this company that deals in some of the most expensive and upscale homes in the Bay Area. Although real estate has changed dramatically throughout the years, McGuire Real Estate has changed with it. The business employs a diverse staff that matches the diverse population of the city. Some of the licensees at McGuire Real Estate hold dual positions that allow for an extremely knowledgeable staff; for example, one of the agents is an attorney. Technologically speaking, McGuire Real Estate is at the top of its game, making sure that no advancement goes unnoticed. There are currently four locations that McGuire Real Estate runs and manages. There are two locations in San Francisco, one location in Marin and one in Burlingame.

Strong morals, political savvy and word of mouth advertising have led this Real Estate Company to be one of the most powerful and respected in the city. The past has proven to be a fertile ground from which McGuire Real Estate has grown and certainly will continue to shape this family business.

We are extremely proud to be associated with such a fine and historic establishment. We thank them for sharing this story with us.
