This course is for healthcare professionals who need to know how to perform CPR, as well as other lifesaving skills, in a wide variety of in-hospital and out-of-hospital settings.
The BLS for Healthcare Providers Classroom Course is designed to provide a wide variety of healthcare professionals the ability to recognize several life-threatening emergencies, provide CPR, use an AED, and relieve choking in a safe, timely and effective manner.
These courses are for anyone with limited or no medical training who needs a course completion card for job, regulatory or other requirements. These courses are also designed to meet OSHA requirements. For many of our courses, students receive a course completion card that is valid for two years.
Heartsaver CPR AED
Heartsaver® CPR AED is a classroom, video-based, instructor-led course that teaches adult CPR and AED use, as well as how to relieve choking on an adult.This course teaches skills with AHA's research-proven Practice-While-Watching (PWW) technique, which allows instructors to observe the students, provide feedback and guide the students' learning of skills.
Heartsaver First Aid
American Heart Association Heartsaver® First Aid is a classroom, video-based, instructor-led course that teaches students critical skills to respond to and manage an emergency in the first few minutes until emergency medical services (EMS) arrives. Students learn skills such as how to treat bleeding, sprains, broken bones, shock and other first aid emergencies.
On You Way Home "Appetizer" CEU's
These are one-hour continuing education classes covering a variety of pre-hospital and emergency medical topics. An appetizer will be provided.
Controlling Aggressive Responses Effectively (CARE) Certificate Course

Location: 251 and 252 McLaren Hall
Time: Two Sessions (8am - noon or 1pm - 5pm)
Certificate and 4.0 hours of EMS and BRN CE
Four hour course.
CARE (Controlling Aggressive Responses Effectively) is a course designed to teach healthcare professionals how to deal with an aggressive patient. Whether the patient is verbally aggressive, physically aggressive or simply uncooperative, healthcare professionals will learn how to deal with the patient safely. Participants will learn how to protect themselves while they care for their patients.
Understand how work place violence is defined
Understand the extent of the problem in the healthcare setting
Learn how to identify signals that may be associated with impending violence
Learn how to avoid a potential violent situation
Learn how to de-escalate a situation verbally before it becomes physical
Understand what the most statistically common assaults are in the healthcare setting
Learn how to control aggressive responses effectively
Learn what to do after an incident
$35 for USF Students and Faculty (must provide USF ID#). $65 for other interested Healthcare Providers and non-USF members.

USF EMR Service provides Heartsaver® CPR AED and Heartsaver® First Aid courses for USF campus groups and departments. In order to request a group class there must be at least 12 participants and the class must be scheduled and approved 14 days in advance. The USFEMRs will staff and provide for accommodations for the group when space and staffing is available. The standard fee of $65.00 per student applies.
