JD MBA Concurrent Degree Program

A concurrent JD/MBA degree program is offered jointly by the USF School of Law and the USF School of Business and Professional Studies.

This four-year program is designed to provide law school graduates with an in-depth perspective of corporate business practices, and the business skills necessary to successfully manage law firms, larger businesses or non-profit organizations. With a strong emphasis on teamwork, the MBA program helps you to develop an entrepreneurial approach to solve a variety of managerial problems in both startup and corporate settings.

Students enrolled in the concurrent program complete the first year of study exclusively at the law school, and spend the second year at the business school. First-year JD students who decide after admission to pursue a concurrent degree may apply and complete any needed business courses during the summer session.

This concurrent degree provides a cost and time savings of up to 24 units compared to completing each degree separately. Up to 12 of the required 86 JD units are accepted as crossover courses from the MBA program and up to 12 of the required 56 MBA units are accepted as crossover courses from the JD program. Separate admission is required and each school applies its own standards and requirements for admission and continued participation.

Full-time JD students must complete the first year exclusively in the law school program with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.50 at the end of their first year in order to be eligible for the JD/MBA program. In addition, these students must complete their second year exclusively in the full-time MBA cohort program. Part-time JD students who wish to enroll in the joint program must (1) convert to full-time status before the start of the second year, (2) complete six law units in the summer immediately following the first year, (3) complete the first and second year exclusively in the law school, and (4) complete the third year exclusively in the full-time MBA cohort program. MBA courses are offered in fall, spring and summer terms, and follow a cohort model for the required core courses.
