The Bay Area Math Meet (BAMM) is an annual, all-day event for local high-school students which began in 1994. BAMM features both individual and team events, and many prizes are awarded. Last year, about two dozen students received prizes of books and clothing totaling over $1000.
The heart of BAMM is the Math Bowl, a college-bowl style elimination tournament with three-person teams. The main event for individuals is the 50-minute Test of Ingenuity, an exam roughly between the AHSME (American High School Math Exam) and AIME (American Invitational Math Exam) in difficulty. Other events include a fast-paced mathematical Team Contest and TurboBuzz, a sophisticated variant of the old "Buzz" game.
Students need no special knowledge beyond geometry and algebra; none of our problems require calculus. Although your AP students may be the most interested in BAMM, it is open to all bright students who love math and enjoy solving problems.
Lunch and refreshments are served (at no cost to participants), and the day will culminate with an awards ceremony immediately after the championship round of the math bowl.
