Help track the flu symptoms by taking part in USF’s Flu Near You Initiative!
What is Flu Near You?
Flu Near You is an online surveillance tool that tracks self-reported flu symptoms. With this information, Flu Near You maps and monitors the spread of influenza across the nation. USF is a pilot program; as such, we are fortunate to have a USF-specific, interactive influenza surveillance map. In the future, the creators of Flu Near You hope to use this technology for other types of health surveillance.

Why is Flu Near You important to the USF community?
The USF motto is “change the world from here.” The Flu Near You Initiative strikes at the core of this maxim. As smart and conscientious members of our community, the Flu Near You surveillance technology allows us to battle the spread of influenza within our neighborhood. With a few clicks of a button, participants promote community health.
Our goal is 100% USF community participation. We have reached out to a diverse group of students, faculty, and staff in promoting this initiative.
You do not need to be a nursing, public health, or pre-health profession student to sign-up or help out!
While Flu Near You is an epidemiologist’s dream, you do not need to have a background in epidemiology to understand the importance of the initiative. For example, economics and sociology majors are equally important partners as their colleagues in the school of nursing and health professions.
How do I sign up?
All individuals 13 and older can sign up. All you need is a valid email address.
Registered participants will be emailed a SHORT weekly survey, inquiring about flu symptoms and whether they have received a flu shot (the survey only takes 5 to 10 seconds to complete!).
You can sign up by clicking on the graphic at the top of this page or here at https://flunearyou.org/usf/
