SDS welcomes calls and visits from
those families wishing to learn more about the office and how services are
provided. This page is designed to give families a richer understanding of Student Disability Services at the college level and provides suggestions for
helping their students make the most of available services.
We also encourage you to read this open letter to parents for advice on supporting your student’s transition to
the university level. In addition, we have more specific information about different laws and expectations as your student moves from high school to college.
Getting Started - Registration
Process
Once
your student decides to come to USF, they can initiate
the intake and eligibility process
through our office. Documentation of disability is
required at the university level. Please refer to our documentation guidelines for
more information.
Confidentiality: Special
Information for Parents
Records and details regarding
students with disabilities are protected. Students over the age of 18 are
considered adults and are protected by FERPA. Parents
should expect that conversations and information shared with Student Disability
Services may not be shared with the parent unless the student signs a
