Coursework in Spanish
at USF brings to life the unique role of Spanish and Spanish speakers in our
society and others…as fellow citizens, as guardians of rich cultures, as
representatives of other ways of being, as a politically- and economically-significant
sector of the world population. Because
the major and minor incorporate service learning and study abroad, these
Spanish degree programs also facilitate the development of a deep cultural
knowledge which makes it possible not only to understand but to engage, to
become part of, and to shape – with creativity, generosity, and compassion –
our multicultural world.
In addition to
coursework, students have access to the Spanish Conversation Table and a
variety of student clubs whose missions emphasize culture, community
engagement, and learning through action.
You will find that the
most important activities of your undergraduate work at USF are unique to
you…the product of your active exploration and engagement of
opportunities. The Spanish major and
minor expose you to historical, economic, social and religious contexts, to
cultural artifacts, to peoples and places, and to varied modes of inquiry and
analysis, allowing you to build a rich academic, intellectual, and social
experience during your course of studies.
With a major or minor
in Spanish, you can look forward to a lifetime of applying the knowledge and
skills of your USF studies to engagement with Spanish speakers and their
cultures.
