USF Summer Service-Learning -- Bolivia
Thank you for applying to the program! We appreciate your interest in this service-learning experience exploring sustainable development work in Bolivia. This opportunity is a collaboration between the USF Leo T. McCarthy Center for Public Service and the Common Good and Foundation for Sustainable Development (FSD).
During the Spring 2013 semester, selected Scholars will engage in related coursework and instruction at USF. They will then travel to Uganda or India to live with host families and work in community-based organizations for approximately ten weeks. The group will return mid-August and complete subsequent instruction at USF during the Fall 2013 semester. Upon successful completion of the program and its requirements, participants will earn 10 units of USF credit, including credit in service-learning.
Required eligibility criteria are as follows:
- Current sophomore or junior status (i.e., rising junior or senior in summer 2013).
- Prior community service and/or service-learning experience
- Ability to enroll in the Spring 2013 Sarlo Scholars seminar, MWF from 2:15-3:20 p.m. You will also enroll in a 2-unit History course, and a Fall 2013 course (date and time TBD, based on participants’ availability). IF YOU CANNOT ENROLL IN THESE COURSES, YOU CANNOT PARTICIPATE IN THE PROGRAM-- NO EXCEPTIONS!
Each participant selected will be charged a nonrefundable program fee of $350 upon registration for the Spring seminar, to secure his or her place in the program. You will also be responsible for visa and immunization expenses. The remaining costs - flights, meals, lodging, program fees and summer credits (tuition for two units) - are fully funded.
