Stephanie Sears, Department of Sociology
I am a sociology professor that also teaches in the African American Studies and Gender and Sexualities Studies programs at USF. My teaching and research interests focus on understanding power, privilege, oppression, and social change. I bring these interests to my work with EMDS. What I enjoy most about being a part of EMDS is building relationships with students outside of the classroom that create a more thoughtful, engaged and fun learning environment. I also enjoy stepping back and allowing students to vision, design, and implement their own social change projects. Being a part of this program is one of the highlights of my USF experience.
Karina Hodoyán, Assistant Professor
Assistant Professor, received her Masters in Comparative Literature at San Francisco State University and her PhD from the Department of Spanish & Portuguese at Stanford University. Her areas of focus include Mexican, Border and Chicana/o Literary and Cultural Studies, with an interest in Feminist and Performance Studies.
Dawn Lee Tu, Director, Cultural Centers
As an interdisciplinary scholar and student affairs professional, she brings a unique perspective to her work as a diversity affairs professional. She holds a PhD in Cultural Studies from the University of California at Davis where her research focused on diversity initiatives and Asian American student engagement in college. She also holds an MA in American Studies from New York University where she researched and wrote about Asian American youth and hip hop consciousness. In addition to researching diversity-related issues, she has spent the past nine years cultivating her passion for social justice through other student affairs roles that have included diversity training, community-based capacity building, crisis management and community mediation. Her experience with teaching college students, training as a critical ethnographer and Ethnic Studies scholar, and student affairs experience enables her to bridge theory and practice and cultivate collaborative projects between faculty, students and the community. She is a proud product of the San Francisco public education system (K-12).
