SACRAMENTO
— (Jan. 17, 2012) The University of San Francisco’s (USF) Sacramento campus
announced today the launch of the 2+2 Degree Program, an undergraduate degree
completion initiative designed to serve transfer-ready students in the
Sacramento region pursuing degrees in psychology, business administration, and communication.
The
University of San Francisco has worked with Sacramento’s Los Rios Community College
District to design the 2+2 Degree Program where students complete their
bachelor’s degree through University of San Francisco classes taken at USF’s
downtown Sacramento campus. After completing general education requirements and
some lower division courses at a local community college or another university,
students enrolled in the University of San Francisco’s 2+2 Program have the
flexibility to finish courses required for a bachelor’s degree in two years by
attending full time, or to finish at their own pace.
This marks an expanded
offering at USF’s Sacramento location, where previously only evening courses
for the working professionals were available. To better serve transfer-ready
students, those enrolled in the 2+2 Degree Program will benefit from reduced tuition,
discounted parking, and daytime class offerings.
“The
University of San Francisco hopes to offer the local college-eligible
population the option of USF’s
private, Jesuit undergraduate degree program in the heart of Sacramento so that
more students will finish their degree and stay in Sacramento to serve in
positions that strengthen the city and region,” said USF Provost Jennifer
Turpin. “Students in USF
Sacramento’s 2+2 Degree Program will
have direct access to dedicated professors, small class sizes, and opportunities
for internships.”
Los Rios community colleges
in greater Sacramento include American River, Cosumnes River, Folsom Lake, and
Sacramento City colleges. “We are
excited about the opportunity this new USF 2+2 Degree Program will give our students,”
said Chancellor Brice Harris. “Providing
another option to complete the bachelor’s degree here in the region reduces the
chance that students will leave the area and the state for their education and
not return when they finish.”
“Higher education adds tremendous value to
the quality of life enjoyed by Sacramento residents and businesses,” said Sacramento
Mayor Kevin Johnson. “The strength of our city’s economy and the health of our
communities relies on education. The unemployment rate for college graduates
with bachelor’s degrees is approximately half the jobless rate for workers with
no college experience, and college graduates are less likely to rely on
government assistance programs. I commend the University of San Francisco and
Los Rios Community College District for collaborating to make our city world
class.”
Applications
for the 2+2 Degree Program are now being accepted, and classes will begin in
fall 2012. For more information about the 2+2 Degree Program, and details on
transfer credits and pricing, please visit www.usfca.edu/sacramento or call 916-920-0157.
