Election Aftermath: Chaos or Community?

22October
11:45AM - 1:15PM
McLaren Complex 250

Our obligation as concerned citizens is to vote on November 5, because so many died to secure our right to vote, and because the survival of our democracy (and, in the face of climate change, our planet) depends on it. We also need to think in advance about the day and week after. If Harris wins, will there be efforts to block certification of the election results in the Electoral College? Will the issue go to the Supreme Court? Are we at risk for an outbreak of violence from right wing groups and individuals? If Trump wins, what should we be most concerned about, and what are the most effective options for possible nonviolent resistance? How can we prepare to respond effectively to each possible scenario?

Dr. Stephen Zunes is a national expert on the politics of nonviolence and conflict resolution in the United States, the Middle East and throughout the world.

Dr. Keally McBride, Chair of the USF Politics Department, is a scholar of power, social change, decolonization, peace and conflict, and rule of law in the United States and abroad.
