"Feminist Futures – Reimagining Change" explores bold, intersectional visions for a just and equitable world. Panelists discuss their experiences as women in the political world and how they see change enacted in their respective fields.
Sue Lovell is a local Houston politician who served on the Houston City Council, holding the at-large position 2 from 2006 to 2012. Lovell was a candidate for Mayor of Houston in 2019. She was an organizer and formative advocate with the Houston GLBT Political Caucus.
Born and raised in Wyoming, Laura Thomson is a government affairs consultant and public policy advocate. She began her career in public policy as a staff member for U.S. Senator Craig Thomas. After staying home for a period with her 3 young children, she reentered the policy world, forming Thomson Group with her father. Laura has served on several local boards and, specific to women, is a longtime supporter of Leap into Leadership and Girls on the Run. She earned degrees in political science and economics from Colorado State University.
Veronica Lempert is a doula and political organizer in San Francisco. She currently serves as a Legislative Aide for San Francisco Supervisor Stephen Sherrill, who represents District 2. Last election cycle, Veronica worked as the campaign manager for the SF Reproductive Freedom Act (Prop O) and a strategist for the City’s public health bond (Prop B). She is a birth and postpartum doula and has been active in the reproductive health advocacy space for many years. Prior to her campaign work, she ran programming at the civic event space, Manny’s, organizing public conversations with local, state, and federally elected officials. She is deeply passionate about issues regarding maternal health, reproductive justice, and access to civic education. Outside of doula or political work, she can be found reading, playing tennis, swimming laps, or cooking with friends.
