5 Reasons to Love Day of the Dons

On March 27, USF celebrated Day of the Dons, an annual 24-hour fundraising event where the community comes together to support the university. This year’s theme, “Seeds of Impact: Growing a Legacy,” encouraged excitement and generosity to sprout across campus.

The fun kicked off at Gleeson Plaza, where students, faculty, and staff came together to celebrate the power of generosity through a myriad of themed activities. Throughout March, service events popped up across the country, uniting alumni to make a difference in their local chapters and spread the Day of the Dons spirit.

Here are 5 reasons to love this year’s Day of the Dons:

  1. First-Ever Day of the Dons Photo Contest: This year’s inaugural photo contest encouraged the USF community to share their favorite USF memories. Be it a colorful commencement, game-winning shot, or breathtaking Lone Mountain sunset, all entries won a chance to be featured on USF’s social media and on the official Day of the Dons website. With 78 participants, more than 120 photos were submitted for the chance to win the prize.
  2. “What Kind of Flower Are You?” Quiz: In this light-hearted online personality quiz, test-takers had fun diving into their unique character traits through a range of questions to reveal their matching flower personality. By answering experiential questions, participants learned which flower best represented them; inspiring everyone to embrace personal growth and create positive change by giving to a fund of their choice.
  3. Virtual Trivia Takedown: For those who couldn’t join the fun in person, the virtual trivia challenge brought friends together to test their general USF and music knowledge for a chance to win a USF swag bag.
  4. Service Events from Coast to Coast: The generous spirit of Day of the Dons wasn’t limited to events on the Hilltop campus — it extended throughout the country with service events in Los Angeles, New York City, Sacramento, and San Francisco. In Los Angeles, the SoCal Alumni Chapter partnered with Friends of the LA River to remove invasive species and plant natives to support the local ecosystem.
  5. Friendly(-ish) Class Competitions: Each year, freshmen, sophomores, juniors, and seniors compete to get the most donors, with the winning class receiving a prize and endless bragging rights. This year, the Class of 26 came out on top!

The Day of the Dons celebration generated excitement that reached beyond San Francisco, as alumni and donors from around the globe participated. Thanks to the generosity of the entire USF community, Day of the Dons surpassed its goal of 2,025 donors and raised over $700,000.

It's not too late to be a part of Day of the Dons! Give today and help make a lasting impact on this meaningful day.
