Meet Evan Eldermire ’26

Where are you from and what is your background?
I am from New York City, although originally born in Florida. Growing up, I spent a large portion of my time in Jamaica and Arizona to get closer with my extended family.

Why did you apply for this graduate program and decide to study at USF?
I applied to the MS in Environmental Management program for the strong mix of research and practical use of scientific research through management. I also enjoy the ability to learn in many different subjects and disciplines that this program allows.

What impacts has the Dean's Scholarship had on your ability to further your studies?
The Dean's Scholarship has greatly aided in my ability to afford both graduate school and my living arrangements. By receiving it, I have been able to not only become a first time renter, I have also had the ability to move across the country and save for the months to come.

What are your career ambitions?
I'm not too sure what I want my career to be. I have found great joy in research, specifically in ecology and ecotoxicology. I have also enjoyed learning ecological management and practical ways to use science. My ideal job would have a mix of both field research and consulting.

What is something unique or interesting about you?
I have had a large amount of research. I have spent summers snorkeling in Missouri for freshwater turtle research, measuring photosynthesis of cacao trees in an indoor rainforest in Tuscon, Arizona, and soil research on the White Mountains.

Are You ELIGIBLE?

The Dean’s Scholarship recognizes a select group of incoming students in graduate programs, who the admission committees believe will make a substantial contribution to the programs. Recipients are selected based on merit. To be considered for the Dean's Scholarship, students must apply to their program by the program's priority deadline.
