Meet USF’s Interim Associate Dean of Sciences
Christopher Brooks, associate professor of computer science at the University of San Francisco, has been appointed interim associate dean of sciences for the College of Arts and Sciences.
Brooks takes over from physics Professor Marcelo Camperi, who has been appointed interim dean for the College of Arts and Sciences.
Previously the chair of USF’s computer science department and a visiting researcher at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, Brooks has been with USF since 2002. He earned his doctorate in computer science and engineering with an emphasis in artificial intelligence from the University of Michigan in 2002.
As interim associate dean, Brooks plans to promote more interest in the sciences from a wider set of students. “It seems clear to me that many of the challenges facing the U.S. and the world, such as climate change, energy, overpopulation, disease and famine, are problems that can be solved by science,” Brooks said. “I'd like to help students better understand the connection between science and USF's mission to develop a more humane and just world.”
Another key focus of his efforts will be supporting the construction of USF’s Center for Science and Innovation, where he hopes to play a role in molding USF’s ongoing efforts to deliver top-flight science education.
