
Program Overview
The EdD in International and Multicultural Education is rooted in racial and educational justice, abolitionist frameworks and human rights education:
The program is grounded in five main conceptual areas:
- critical social theory and schooling
- intersectionality of race, class, nation, language, gender and sexuality in education
- human rights and social movements
- international and comparative education
- alternative research paradigms
Program Delivery
The program follows a schedule of alternate weekend classes that convene nine times a semester (Friday evenings and all day Saturdays).
Our Curriculum
The IME EdD Program is a 60-unit program. Students are given the option to choose between three concentrated areas of study: Language & Culture, Human Rights Education (HRE); and Racial Justice and Education (RJE).
Optional Minors
You can complement your major coursework with a subject from outside of the program by exploring a minor in another department.
A doctoral minor consists of 12 credits.

Preliminary Administrative Services Credential
The Transformative School Leadership Administrative Services Credential can be combined with our Doctor of International and Multicultural Education. This program is designed to prepare future principals, assistant principals, teacher leaders, curriculum coaches, specialists, and district administrators for the demands of contemporary school leadership.
