Program Overview
In line with our Jesuit values, our curriculum is infused with a sense of social justice and awareness that you can use to understand and improve the world. Our core classes will provide a basic understanding of contemporary issues in society. Then you can try courses like Criminology (popular for those interested in law), Sociology of Education (popular for those interested in teaching), Social Movements, and Diversity Studies courses like People of Mixed Descent, Asians & Pacific Islanders in U.S. Society, Chicanx/Latinx Culture and Society, and Sex and Sexualities.
Pick a Concentration
There are a variety of subtopics within the field of sociology. If you add a concentration, you can focus on a particular area of interest through the completion of sociology electives. Eligible students who conduct their own sociological research and write an undergraduate thesis can earn the Honors distinction and become better equipped for graduate school.

I took this one course with Professor [Hwaji] Shin, a sociology professor, called Critical Approaches to Race and Ethnicity. I loved that class. It taught me how to be a better writer and a better thinker.”
