The Applied Data Science: Learning and Solving Problems Through Datathons certificate is an 8-session, in-person course designed for high school students eager to explore data science through real-world challenges. Hosted by the MS in Data Science program at the University of San Francisco, this beginner-friendly program provides hands-on experience with data science fundamentals using the globally recognized Women in Data Science (WiDS) Datathon as a learning framework.

Students will work with real datasets, develop essential analytical skills, and learn to communicate data-driven insights effectively. By the end of the program, participants will have completed a data science project, gained exposure to key machine learning concepts, and built a strong foundation for future studies or careers.

Jumping into tech as a high schooler can feel overwhelming—but we’re here to make it fun and accessible! No matter your coding experience, we welcome all skill levels. Join us to learn, create, and collaborate with fellow high school students. Whether you're just starting out or already a coding pro, there's a place for you.

WiDS San Francisco @ the USF Data Institute is independently organized by Diane Woodbridge, PhD to be part of the mission to increase participation of women in data science and to feature outstanding women doing outstanding work.
