Biography
Juli Maxworthy, DNP, PhD(c), MSN, MBA, RN, CNL, CPHQ, CPPS, CHSE, FNAP, FSSH is an academic, innovator, and collaborator in the field of nursing practice, with the goal to use innovative practices and technology to improve health care delivery. She has been a nurse for over 30 years in healthcare and began her career as a critical care nurse in an open heart and trauma unit. After her last clinical position as VP of Quality and Risk at a District hospital, she made the leap into academia full-time by accepting a tenure-earning position at the University of San Francisco (USF), her alma mater. Her roles at USF have included teaching in the Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP)/Executive Leadership DNP and Healthcare Simulation programs, being Director of the Healthcare Simulation Program, and being Chair of the Healthcare Leadership and Innovations Department. She is an Associate Adjunct Professor at the University of California, San Francisco teaching in the DNP Program.
Over the past decade, Dr. Maxworthy has become very involved in healthcare simulation, an experiential learning methodology that healthcare professionals utilize to improve outcomes and simulate processes that identify issues without causing harm. She is a Past President of the International Board of Directors for the Society for Simulation in Healthcare (SSH). She has led the revision of accreditation standards twice, is an accreditation Program reviewer, and is one of the editors of the leading healthcare simulation textbook Defining Excellence in Simulation Programs. She has written multiple articles, chapters, and textbooks on various subjects. In 2017, she was inducted into the inaugural class of the SSH Fellows Academy.
Over the past twenty years, Dr. Maxworthy has been actively involved in Sigma Theta Tau International. She was the President of Nu-Xi at Large, Region One Coordinator for four years and in 2019, Dr. Maxworthy concluded a term as the Vice President on the International Board of Directors of Sigma Theta Tau. In March 2020, she was inducted as a Distinguished Fellow of the National Academies of Practice. Also, in 2020, she became a member of the Sutter Bay Foundation and Hospital Board of Directors.
Dr. Maxworthy obtained her DNP from the University of San Francisco, focusing on Healthcare Systems Leadership with a concentration in quality and patient safety, MSN and MBA from Holy Names University, and BSN from California State University Hayward. She holds certifications as a Clinical Nurse Leader (CNL), Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ), Certified Professional in Patient Safety (CPPS), and Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator (CHSE).
