In 2022, USF acquired the space formerly known as the Blood Centers of the Pacific. The building occupies a highly visible corner of campus, at the intersection of Masonic Avenue and Turk Boulevard.

Currently referred to as the Health & Life Sciences Campus, the facility will host interdisciplinary spaces that bolster the university’s capacity to provide the best training for nurses, clinical health professionals, researchers, scientists, and artists.

The proposed layout is designed to enable collaborations between programs. It is highlighted by gardens and a terrace, considered ‘collision spaces’ — spaces that foster social learning and mentorship.

The acquired space will allow USF to provide care for the greater San Francisco community with an emphasis on addressing pressing societal needs, such as nursing shortages and mental health crises. It can be viewed as a continuation of the long history of collaboration between USF and the communities of not only the Western Addition, but of the world.

The new building will allow existing programs to grow their enrollment, and will provide room for exciting new majors. Life sciences students will take advantage of the benefits of new lab spaces, and School of Nursing and Health Professions enrollees will continue to train at the forefront of technology with immersive experiences.
