What to Expect

As a UTEC student, you'll take a shorter list of classes on the undergraduate level for the first four years. You'll then enter the full Special Education intern program for the following two years.

Undergraduate Years

In the 4+2 Special Education track, you’ll take various classes during your undergraduate years to provide a strong pedagogical foundation for the graduate Special Education intern program. Classes include an introductory course to the teaching profession, a focused course on education of the exceptional child, curriculum courses in math, science, and early literacy, fieldwork in a Special Education classroom, and two Special Education courses that feature social and emotional learning and data-based instruction.

Graduate Years

You’ll spend your final two years on the graduate level taking Special Education courses and working full-time as a teacher of record in a local school. The curriculum includes a variety of learning specialist courses, assessment, intern teaching seminars, and master's courses that culminate in a finished master's thesis.
