LAW CLINICS

Immigration & Deportation Defense Clinic

As a student in the Immigration and Deportation Defense Clinic, you’ll work directly with unaccompanied immigrant children and families who are in removal proceedings in the San Francisco Immigration Court.

Make a Difference

Most clients are seeking asylum after fleeing violence in the Northern Triangle of Central America and Mexico, and many children qualify for Special Immigrant Juvenile Status. You’ll have the chance to represent these vulnerable clients and help them navigate complex immigration and state court systems, making a real impact on their lives.

Join a Community Fighting for Justice

As part of the clinic, you’ll join a team tackling more than 500 active cases alongside two attorneys, three paralegals, and a social services coordinator. You’ll work with people who have escaped extreme violence and trauma and be inspired by their strength and resilience every day.

Go Beyond the Classroom

Your work won’t stop at casework. The clinic gives you opportunities to take part in community events, such as leading Know Your Rights presentations in the Central Valley and visiting immigration detention facilities and the border.

Collaborate with Community Partners

The clinic partners with collaboratives in San Francisco, Sonoma, and San Mateo counties, and works closely with the Bar Association of San Francisco and community-based organizations statewide. This work is made possible by funding from the City and County of San Francisco, San Mateo County, the Secure Families Collaborative in Sonoma County, and the California Department of Social Services.
