Mark Spencer ’24 shares why he chose the MS in Information Systems (MSIS) program at USF.

At the second annual Startup Summit, presented on campus by USF’s Startup Club, five teams pitched business ideas to four judges with experience in the startup world. One team received $10,000 from the Office of the Provost to fund its project.

Meet Daisy Hernandez MBA ’24 who saw an opportunity to help pay her rent during the pandemic when there were vacant rooms available in her building. Working with her landlord, she began showing the vacancies online as content. Nearly two years later, she is wrapping up her graduate degree from USF, and scaling her business, The Apartment Plug, to the next level.

The 165th Commencement ceremonies of the University of San Francisco will be May 16, 17, and 18 in St. Ignatius Church, with 2,025 graduates receiving degrees from the College of Arts and Sciences, the School of Education, the School of Management, the School of Law, and the School of Nursing and Health Professions.

Andrew Saah ’25 and Owen Sordillo ’24 met as sophomores, randomly assigned suitemates in Lone Mountain East. Today, they are working with NASA — and a $100,000 grant from the space agency — on a startup that will use satellite and lidar data to predict wildfires.

Valerio Mirarchi MBA ’24 came up with the idea for an AI project while tutoring USF students studying Italian.

In the latest employment survey conducted by USF, 81 percent of graduates from the Class of 2022 report they are employed (compared to 77 percent from the year before), and 10 percent are continuing their education.

Valerie Lam ’23 spoke at her commencement Dec. 15, urging fellow School of Management undergraduates to look to the future. For Lam, a business administration major, the future means starting a job at TIAA, the retirement fund, as a human resources associate in San Francisco. She got the job through the first friend she made at USF.
